Who we are
- The Under Tourist is operated by Bushwhack Travel based in Calaveras County, California. You can reach us at warren@theundertourist.com or P.O. Box 2, Avery, CA 95224
What we collect
When you join the email list. Your name and email address.
When you buy something. Your name, email address, and billing details. Payment card information is collected and processed directly by Stripe- we never see or store your full card number.
When you commission a Trip Reading. The information you provide in the intake form: your destination, travel dates, what kind of trip you’re taking and anything else you choose to tell us. We need this to write the document.
When you book a consultation. Your name, email, the time you select and your answers to the pre-session questions.
Automatically, when you visit. Standard analytics data- pages viewed, approximate location, browser and device type and how you arrived. Collected through cookies and similar technologies.
Why we collect it
To deliver what you’ve bought, to send the emails you’ve asked for, to respond when you get in touch, to run and improve the site and to meet our legal and accounting obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Who processes data on our behalf
We use a small number of established services, each of which handles data under its own privacy policy:
- Kit– email list and product checkout
- Stripe– payment processing
- Google (Workspace, Forms, Calendar, Meet- intake forms, scheduling, and consultation calls
- Cal.com– consultation booking
- Google Analytics– site analytics
- Our web host and WordPress- site operation
Cookies
We use cookies to keep the site working properly and to understand how it’s used. You can refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings or the cookie notice on the site; some site functions may not work as well if you do.
How long we keep things
Email list data is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Order and transaction records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. Trip Reading intake responses are kept while we write your document and for a reasonable period afterward in case you have follow-up questions.
Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of it. You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it- write to warren@theundertourist.com and we’ll respond.
If you’re in California, the CCPA/CPRA gives you rights to know what we collect, to request deletion and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We don’t sell personal information as those laws define it.
If you’re in the UK or EU, the GDPR gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability and objection. Our legal bases for processing are performing our contract with you (delivering what you bought), your consent (marketing emails) and our legitimate interests (running and improving the site).
Children
This site isn’t directed at children under 16 and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Security
We use reputable providers and reasonable safeguards. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
Changes
We’ll update this page if our practices change and revise the date at the top.
